FAQ
Is there an official YouTube Music app for Mac?
No. On macOS Google only offers YouTube Music in the browser. YTM Desktop wraps the official web player (music.youtube.com) in a native Mac window, so everything works exactly as on the website.
Does it work with YouTube Music Premium?
Yes. You sign in with your own Google account, so Premium, your library, uploads and playlists are all there. Free accounts work too, ads included, just like in the browser.
Why can't I sign in with a passkey?
macOS only gives passkeys and Password AutoFill to Safari and apps that Google has officially associated with its domain. Choose “Try another way” → “Enter your password” on the Google sign-in page. You only need to do this once.
Is it safe? What data does it collect?
None. The app has no analytics and no server of its own. It's a single Swift file you can read in a few minutes. Your Google session is stored by macOS's WebKit, like in Safari.
Which Macs are supported?
Any Mac with macOS 14 Sonoma or newer. The download is a universal app for Apple Silicon (M1 and later) and Intel.
